Events: Urban Outfitters Invades Tallahassee!

Are you tired of the lack of shopping in Tallahassee? Are you sick of driving to Jacksonville, Tampa, and/or Orlando just to get your shopping fix in? Then do I have good news for you!

For the first time ever, Urban Outfitters is taking it’s store on tour. The purpose of this tour is to bring the Urban Outiftters shopping experience to cities without a permanent Urban Outfitters location. Starting on Monday, October 17th, Urban Outfitters will set up shop on the corner of East College Avenue & South Duval Street. The store will be open for business on Monday, October 17th to Thursday, October 20th from 12pm-8pm.

This Urban Outfitters store is unlike any other pop up shop. They used two shipping containers to create the Store on Tour (you can watch the video here). The Store on Tour will have a little bit of everything with something special in the mix just for the Florida State Seminole Fans! Dockers, DRY Soda, and Tortoise & Blonde will also be joining Urban Outfitters on Tour.

Be sure you follow @UOtour on Twitter for the most up-to-date information & come out next week to shop until you drop!

If You’re Ever In: New York

One of my all-time favorite boutiques is LF Stores. I have visited their SoHo location two times prior to living in New York this summer & after 11 weeks of trying to find the best boutiques, LF still tops my list! I have said so many times how excited I am because next year I will FINALLY be living in New York to shop their only sale of the season. Little did I know that their spring sale would start my last day in New York. Best surprise ever!

The entire store was 60% off & will continue to be marked down until they get rid of all of their spring merchandise. The store was absolute chaos but completely worth it! If you are ever in NYC, Los Angeles, Miami, or Boston during one of their AMAZING sales, I highly recommend allowing at least two hours to shop. There are so many fabulous finds but you will have to dig & walk around the store several times. Also, the lines for the dressing room & the checkout can get extremely long. I put my name down for the dressing room when I found a handful of good items but continued browsing while I was waiting for my name to be called and ended up with at least double the items. I also recommend shopping at LF prior to their sale. You will be able to get a feel of the store and at least have an idea of the items you want. All of the items I had my eye on earlier on in the summer I ended up buying at 60% off.

MY FINDS:

Glam Tech: My Style Fashion Assistant

If you have been a long-time follower of my blog, you may remember me writing about a fashion iPod & iPhone application called My Fashion Style Assistant. At the time, it was one of my favorite apps. I just recently got an iPhone & was so excited to start using this application again. Without an iPhone, I’ll admit, the process was timely. But now that I have an iPhone, all I have to do is snap a quick photo of the clothing item, enter the details about the garment & save it. It’s seriously that simple!

Since I first wrote about this application, tons of new (awesome) features have been added. One of the new features I am loving is the ability to filter out items while in the Mix & Match view. Instead of having to swipe through your entire closet, you can find the items you are looking for by filtering by type, category, season & color.

My all-time favorite new feature would have to be the ability to layer & accessorize each outfit. Before you could only save an outfit as a top, bottom & shoes. Now you can save the outfit & then open it again in the layer & accessorize mode which will allow you to pair the outfit with jewelry, jackets, hats, scarves, purses, belts & more!

More new features include creating packing lists, online window shopping, the ability to back up your wardrobe & email outfits to friends.

Another amazing change? The price! You can now buy this lovely, 5 star rated application for only $1.99! Such a steal!

Splurge vs Save: Kate Spade Glitter Pumps

Ever since Kate Spade came out with these New York ‘Charm’ Slingback Pumps, I have been obsessed with them. At a retail price of $325, they are a bit pricey for how often I would wear them. I have finally found the next best thing for one-eighth the price.

The Qupid ‘Neutral-20′ Stiletto Glitter Pumps, although differing in style, looks nearly identical in color. The Kate Spade’s have a bit more silver glitter while the Qupid’s has more pinks. I actually prefer the style of Qupid shoe over the slingback pump because it is easier to wear this shoe with everything. It looks great with skinny jeans and a nice blazer for a fun spin on the typical business casual outfit. You can score this fabulous pair of glitter stilettos for only $39.90 on AKIRA.

Blazer: 3.1 Phillip Lim; Jeans: Victoria Beckham; Top: Go Jane; Watch: Michael Kors

Trend to Try: Animal Hats

One winter trend that has been nearly impossible to ignore this holiday season are hats inspired by animals. Hats inspired by bears, (sock) monkeys, cats & even reindeer can be seen nearly everywhere on the Internet & in stores. Some hats, such as the one featured in black from AKIRA, is a combination of a hat, scarf & mittens. This animal trend is great for having fun with fashion & staying warm. Even Quarter Moon Imports in Tallahassee has embraced this recent trend by offering fair trade animal hats with matching mittens. I’ve also seen coats with a hat-inspired hood. In California, a young boy had a warm coat on with a polar bear hood. It was pretty much the cutest thing ever!

What do you think of this trend? Have you spotted anyone with animal fever this holiday season?

Must-Have: Four-Finger Clutch

Alexander McQueen is at it again with this new innovative clutch. With several different designs, this clutch combines the classic clutch with this year’s four-finger ring trend. Finally a small clutch that is easy & effortless to hold. Simply put your fingers through the four-finger ring on the clutch to hold. Leave your personal ring collection at home for the night & let your clutch do all of the accessorizing. Everyone will be green with envy.

The Alexander McQueen Four-Finger Clutch has already been seen walking the red carpet. Of course, being that it is from Alexander McQueen and absolutely fabulous, these clutches can range anywhere from $1,700 to $2,300. It may be too steep to add to your Christmas list but hey, a girl can dream!

Spotlight On: Kembrel

Are you a fan of online shopping? Do you spend all of your time browsing on private sales stores like Gilt Groupe & HauteLook? Then I have a site for you!

Kembrel is a new way to shop online. Created by students & for students, they really know what we want. What I love about this site is that you can shop Kembrel’s sales directly through your Facebook account. Just log onto the site with your Facebook account & browse away! It is also FREE to sign up and, unlike other online shopping sites, you do NOT have to wait for an invite. Just go to Kembrel.com and create an account or login with your Facebook account (no additional registration needed) – it is literally THAT easy!

Kembrel offers the same type of brands that other online shopping sites offer just in a more convenient format. Again, you don’t have to shop Kembrel through your Facebook account  - they have a website as well. After using a lot of different online shopping sites throughout the past year, I have noticed that I browse on Kembrel a LOT more because I can easily check it while I am already on Facebook & they don’t email out their sales constantly. It is safe to say that I am officially obsessed with Kembrel! But don’t take my word for it, check it out for yourself here!

Shop Local: Urban Thread

Before the game yesterday, I decided to stop in & check out the grand opening of Urban Thread. At Tuesday’s Collegiate Merchandising Association meeting, one of our members told us a little bit about the store & asked if she could put out flyers on the table. Immediately after she told us about the store, I knew I had to check this place out!

Urban Thread is a store filled with name brands such as Free People, Urban Outfitters & Wildfox Couture but at majorly discounted prices. She explained that all of the items in the store are either off-season items or catalog returns. I found a lot of great items & ended up walking away with a striped BDG crop top & a cozy pullover sweatshirt from Wildfox Couture in navy. Total price? Just under $40. Both of the items I picked were priced at $18.50. Although I am not sure how much the BDG crop top was originally, I found the same Wildfox Couture sweatshirt in a different color for $125 at shopthetrendboutique.com.

The store, at least at the moment, was a plain open space that was very well organized. They were not only organized by size but also by brand. You could also find shoes, handbag, bed spreads, & accessories. The staff was super friendly & helpful. Please keep in mind that all sales are final so make sure that you try everything on & really love it before buying it!

Interested in checking this place out for yourself? Urban Thread is located at 1318 N. Monroe St., just above Sakura Japanese Restaurant.

Trend to Try: The Romper

Rompers are HOT this fall! Today I am rocking this trend & I absolutely love it. They are so versatile & comfy. Wear them with a tube top underneath on a hot summer day or layer them with tights & jackets for cooler weather. So how am I rocking this trend today?

French Connection Racerback Romper in dark gray
Niki Biki Tube Top in burgundy
- Black and white hearts Betsey Johnson bangle (similar to the one featured in this post, also by Betsey Johnson)
- Steve Madden sandals in black (Marc Jacobs sandals featured in this post)

Other fun ways to wear a romper once the cooler fall weather rolls around? Layer the romper over a lace top or lace leggings. For an edgier look, throw on a nice leather jacket.

Are you loving or hating the romper trend? How are you rocking the romper for fall?
