Top Five: Fashion Brands of All Time!

A question people have been asking me lately is: ”What is your favorite brand of all time?” Trick question. I actually have five favorite brands of all time (yes, one is a boutique in SoHo) & I obsess about them equally. Here is why:

French Connection for structure & fit.

French Connection has been among my favorites for years. I always turn to this brand for dresses of all sorts. My most prized French Connection dress in my closet is my go-to dress for an interview. If you have been following my blog for a while, it should come as no surprise that I chose this as my favorite French Connection piece since I have blogged about it before.

Marc by Marc Jacobs for branding & accessories.

I consider Marc by Marc Jacobs to be on almost equal playing fields as the Chanel brand. Although it is cheaper & aimed at a younger generation, the impact of this brand is tremendous. Any brand that can open a book store in SoHo & be successful is obviously onto something. I own a few pieces of Marc by Marc Jacobs clothing but I personally find myself more drawn to the playful accessories – the iPhone covers, the hair accessories, the key chains, the lipstick pens, etc. My most prized Marc by Marc Jacobs accessory is the “perfect purse.”

Alice + Olivia for the drool worthy clothing & defining “social media.”

Alice + Olivia is another one of those brands that is really focused around a specific muse. A young, fun, fashion-forward, working girl. Chances are good that if you like one Alice + Olivia item, you will like them all – which can definitely be dangerous. I have found a lot of great deals on Alice + Olivia at Saks Off Fifth & Neiman Marcus Last Call. I’ve found deals on dresses, tops, & dress pants. Hopefully in the near future, I will be able to afford their high prices but for now I covet all of my discounted Alice + Olivia items. Below is just one of the dresses that I got for only $20!

LF Stores for layering & overall styling.

In a recent post, I named LF Stores as my #1 boutique in New York City. Although, not a brand, I felt it entirely necessary to include this store on my list because I am absolutely in love with all of the items I have purchased there. Hands down, these are the items I get the most compliments on. This store is great for the girl who loves to play with fashion, lives in layers, and likes to blend styles. My favorite item is the long flowing maxi skirt I bought – it’s absolutely gorgeous.

Wildfox Couture for comfort & their success story.

Wildfox Couture can do no wrong in my book. The company was started by two best friends & is really starting to grow into an empire. By starting with creating simple, comfortable & fun graphic t-shirts, the brand has now expanded into denim, jewelry & childrens clothing. I have loved watching the brand grow & continue to be obsessed with everything Wildfox. My favorite Wildfox clothing item is an easy choice for me. It would be my navy “W” sweatshirt because it is SUPER comfortable.

What are your favorite brands of all time? I would love to hear!

A Fashion Year in Review: 2010!

As the end of 2010 is upon us, I wanted to take this time to reflect on the past. As far as fashion, it is clear that this year three brands dominated my heart this year. These three brands include French Connection, Marc by Marc Jacobs & Wildfox Couture. Thinking deeper than that, I compiled a list of my favorite finds this year.

This list included a Theory blazer, Gucci sunglasses, French Connection dress, Michael Kors watch, Wildfox Couture sweatshirt, Marc by Marc Jacobs bag, Juicy Couture riding boots & the Marc by Marc Jacobs perfect purse. Although some of these items made the list because they were a killer deal, they have all become staples in my wardrobe this year.

But of course, this is a time for not only reflecting on fashion, but also on myself personally. 2010 was a major year in my life & I am thankful for everything – the good times and bad.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS:

-Served as the secretary for FSU’s Collegiate Merchandising Association, ran for 2011 President & lost by one vote but no regrets – everything happens for a reason!
- Became the Public Relations Director for FSU’s CLUTCH Magazine. Instantly began working on finding a way to publish an online version of the magazine (for free, of course!) & starting a blog.
- Completed my first internship with Intern Queen Inc. and will continue on as a campus ambassador next semester
- Met Andrea through my summer internship with Intern Queen Inc. & we collaborated in the fall to create the first-ever #CampusFashion Twitter chat – HUGE success!
- Became a campus ambassador for Kembrel where I began increasing awareness of this awesome website on Florida State’s campus while also saving up money to intern in NYC this summer

After reflecting on all that I have accomplished in one year, I am looking forward to the next chapter in my life & what all year 2011 will bring.

Happy new year everyone & thanks for reading! xoxo

Spotlight On: Kembrel

Are you a fan of online shopping? Do you spend all of your time browsing on private sales stores like Gilt Groupe & HauteLook? Then I have a site for you!

Kembrel is a new way to shop online. Created by students & for students, they really know what we want. What I love about this site is that you can shop Kembrel’s sales directly through your Facebook account. Just log onto the site with your Facebook account & browse away! It is also FREE to sign up and, unlike other online shopping sites, you do NOT have to wait for an invite. Just go to Kembrel.com and create an account or login with your Facebook account (no additional registration needed) – it is literally THAT easy!

Kembrel offers the same type of brands that other online shopping sites offer just in a more convenient format. Again, you don’t have to shop Kembrel through your Facebook account  - they have a website as well. After using a lot of different online shopping sites throughout the past year, I have noticed that I browse on Kembrel a LOT more because I can easily check it while I am already on Facebook & they don’t email out their sales constantly. It is safe to say that I am officially obsessed with Kembrel! But don’t take my word for it, check it out for yourself here!

Trend to Try: The Romper

Rompers are HOT this fall! Today I am rocking this trend & I absolutely love it. They are so versatile & comfy. Wear them with a tube top underneath on a hot summer day or layer them with tights & jackets for cooler weather. So how am I rocking this trend today?

French Connection Racerback Romper in dark gray
Niki Biki Tube Top in burgundy
- Black and white hearts Betsey Johnson bangle (similar to the one featured in this post, also by Betsey Johnson)
- Steve Madden sandals in black (Marc Jacobs sandals featured in this post)

Other fun ways to wear a romper once the cooler fall weather rolls around? Layer the romper over a lace top or lace leggings. For an edgier look, throw on a nice leather jacket.

Are you loving or hating the romper trend? How are you rocking the romper for fall?

Top Five: Back to School Trends

Fall semester is just around the corner… so what are this year’s hottest back to school trends?

1. Printed skirt - a fun printed skirt can spice up any outfit! Where with a graphic tee, v-neck, racerback tank or long sleeve shirt – it looks great with them all! Accessorize with necklaces, bracelets & a cute handbag & you are all set for your first day of classes.

Free People $48; Abercrombie & Fitch $50; Miss Selfridge $13.25; Myne $129

2. Platform pumps - every time I go shopping, there are more and more styles of this shoe popping up everywhere I look. With brands like Steve Madden, Jessica Simpson & Guess making them, you should be able to find a great pair at an affordable price.

Jessica Simpson $88.95; Steve Madden $94.99; Guess $98.95; Valentino $695

3. Bow Accents - loving this trend! Bows have been popping up everywhere – bow rings, sweatshirts, necklaces, shoes, headbands – you name it, they make it! Why not embrace this trend and make it your own? Add a tiny understated bow or a crazy overstated bow to really make the outfit your own.

Marc by Marc Jacobs $58; Paris Hilton $94.99; ModCloth $14.99; Forever 21 $4.80

4. Denim Vests/Jackets - the denim vest has become increasingly popular this summer & with fall just around the corner, the denim jacket will be a definite must-have. My favorite brand for denim jackets? Chelsea & Violet, Hollister & A&F.

Shakuhachi $146; French Connection $148; Current/Elliot $177; GAP $34.99

5. Lace tights - black tights under shorts, skirts and dresses can really transform an outfit. Upgrade last year’s pair of black tights for lace leggings for an entirely new look!

Pink Ice $12.99; BBon-J $28; Emilio Cavallini $21.70; bebe $89

Which trends will you be rocking for the fall semester?

How To: Save $1000 on Designer Clothes

This summer, I have found some amazing finds at Off Fifth. So amazing that I have actually saved over $1000 compared to the retail price. Even searching online, the items are at least double the price or nowhere to be found.

1. Stuart Weitzman Hot Pink Espadrilles – I was instantly drawn to these shoes. Hot pink, perfect for summer, Stuart Weitzman and 40% off the sale price? I’m sold! With only one other pair in the store, I was lucky they were my size. With a retail value of $335, I purchased these shoes for $75.

2. French Connection Pink Lady Dress – Again, it was love at first sight with this dress. The color is probably my favorite shade of pink – a popping bubblegum color. French Connection fits like a glove so again I was lucky that I found this in my size. Retail value for this dress is approximately $158, I purchased it for $50.

3. Romeo & Juliet Couture Denim Ruffle Dress – I wasn’t so sure I would like this dress when I saw it on the hanger but have been craving a denim dress so I figured I would at least try it on. This dress is absolutely adorable on and is perfect paired with a brown belt & some cowboy boots. Retail value for this dress is approximately $96 but I purchased it for only $20.

4. Theory Pin-Stripe Blazer – One of the greatest finds of the summer was definitely the Theory blazer. The fit was absolutely amazing but the price was even better! This blazer originally sold for $415 but I purchased it for only $50! What a steal!

5. Current/Elliot Denim Vest – With the denim trend back in full swing, I had been wanting to buy a denim vest but I didn’t want to spend a lot of money on it. Luckily, I found this vest for only $35. Retail price was $232!

6. Free Generation Outfit – The last item did not photograph well but it is a black pencil skirt with an attached black vest. It is the perfect staple for the working girl! Wear it with a blouse, blazer, sweater or nothing at all – it looks great either way! It also fits like a glove & was the cheapest of all of the items. Retail value was around $120 but I purchased it for only $10!

I purchased over $1356 worth of clothes for only $240 by shopping at Off Fifth. If you live near an Off Fifth or are traveling to a place that has one, I highly suggest that you check it out. Off Fifth continues to be my favorite place to shop with great prices and great selection. Whether you want French Connection, Free People, Alice + Olivia, Roberto Cavalli, or Oscar de la Renta, you can find it at Off Fifth!
