Trend to Try: Sheer Maxi Skirt

One look that I am absolutely loving this summer is the sheer maxi skirt. Maxi skirts & dresses have become increasingly popular throughout the past year. Why not amp up the look this summer with the sheer maxi dress. It gives the entire look a lighter feel for the hot summer weather.

I love how simply a sheer maxi skirt can be styled. Pair it with a tank top, long layers of necklaces & bangles for an effortlessly chic look. Of course, you can put your own unique spin on the maxi skirt. I have seen them styled from one extreme to the next by pairing the look with chunky boots or a faux fur jacket.

You can buy a sheer maxi skirt at any of the following sites:
Nordstrom: Wink ‘Geneva’ Silk Maxi Skirt
TopShop: Sand Layered Maxi Skirt
Net-a-Porter.com: Preen Line Tulle Maxi Skirt

Another trick that could save you money is to buy a regular maxi skirt that has lining sewn on the inside in order to give the allusion that the fabric is fuller than it is. Take that lining, cut it off at the desired length & hem it. You instantly have the sheer maxi dress you have been lusting over!

How would you rock this look for summer 2011?

Trend To Try: Color-Blocking

Color-blocking and bright hues have been HUGE trends for Spring/Summer 2011. Seen everywhere on the runway including Prade, Gucci, Gil Sanders and Diane Von Furstenberg, this trend has been nearly impossible to ignore.

On the runway, nearly anything goes but the color-blocking trend can easily get out of control. As a general rule, you want to combine no more than 3 colors in order to establish a clean, put together look. If you want to add a fourth color, it is best to make it a neutral color. Keep in mind that you can easily add pops of color with your shoes, jewelry and/or purse.

Satin & silk fabrics are best for this trend because they really capture the light and enhance the color. Designers have added these two fabrics to their line in bright oranges, purples, greens and blues.

Trend to Try: Animal Hats

One winter trend that has been nearly impossible to ignore this holiday season are hats inspired by animals. Hats inspired by bears, (sock) monkeys, cats & even reindeer can be seen nearly everywhere on the Internet & in stores. Some hats, such as the one featured in black from AKIRA, is a combination of a hat, scarf & mittens. This animal trend is great for having fun with fashion & staying warm. Even Quarter Moon Imports in Tallahassee has embraced this recent trend by offering fair trade animal hats with matching mittens. I’ve also seen coats with a hat-inspired hood. In California, a young boy had a warm coat on with a polar bear hood. It was pretty much the cutest thing ever!

What do you think of this trend? Have you spotted anyone with animal fever this holiday season?

Trend to Try: The Romper

Rompers are HOT this fall! Today I am rocking this trend & I absolutely love it. They are so versatile & comfy. Wear them with a tube top underneath on a hot summer day or layer them with tights & jackets for cooler weather. So how am I rocking this trend today?

- Black and white hearts Betsey Johnson bangle (similar to the one featured in this post, also by Betsey Johnson)
- Steve Madden sandals in black (Marc Jacobs sandals featured in this post)

Other fun ways to wear a romper once the cooler fall weather rolls around? Layer the romper over a lace top or lace leggings. For an edgier look, throw on a nice leather jacket.

Are you loving or hating the romper trend? How are you rocking the romper for fall?

Trend To Try: The Jean Jacket

Get ready for fall by embracing the denim trend with a jean jacket. Reese Witherspoon is a huge fan of this trend and proves just how versatile a jean jacket can be. Other celebrities that are sporting this trend include Nicole Richie, Rihanna & Kim Kardashian. Throw it over a sun dress for a fun & easy day shopping or make a statement & wear denim on denim. Throw a patterned scarf over the jacket & you are good to go! Two completely different looks – one item. My favorite jean jacket is made my Chelsea & Violet. I love the color, the fit & just how comfortable it feels. Nothing is worse than a stiff or tight denim jacket.

You can find the Chelsea & Violet jean jacket at Dillards for $98.

Trend to Try: Free Spirit

This summer, try this trend on for size with these free spirit essentials:

Butterfly shirts
Crop tops
Cowboy boots
Boho bags
Bangles & beaded bracelets
Aviators
Colorful accents
Stone rings
One shoulder tops
Cutoff shorts

Most of all the free spirit style is about staying true to yourself & being confident in everything you wear. Don’t be afraid to take chances when it comes to fashion!

Trend To Try: The Boyfriend Blazer

Blazers have continued to be a must-have throughout 2010. The boyfriend blazer is great because it is extremely versatile and can be worn over nearly anything.

1. Business Casual - pair your blazer with a nice pair of jeans, pumps and v-neck and you have the perfect outfit for casual Fridays in or out of the office.

2. Night Out on the Town - wearing a blazer over a shorter dress is becoming increasingly popular. To create an even edgier look, pair it with tights and knee high boots.

3. Hanging Out with Friends- wear a tank and shorts under your blazer to create a casual and effortless outfit. You can also try wearing leggings or tights under your shorts to enhance the outfit.

How you wear your blazer is entirely up to you! It all depends on what you are doing, what kind of blazer you own as well as your own personal style. Either way, blazers are definitely a staple that everyone should have in their closet.

Trend To Try: Denim Leggings

phdenimleggingsSkinny jeans have continued to be a favorite of mine for the past few years. Think skinny jeans can’t get any tighter? Well, think again. Denim leggings are becoming increasingly popular. Paris Hilton was spotted wearing a graphic tee, denim leggings and pumps. She looks absolutely adorable in this comfy casual yet totally chic outfit.

If you are in love with these leggings, you are in luck because you don’t have to be a millionaire to own them.
